DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION
North Coast Section – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee Mission Statement
The North Coast Section (NCS) is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion among the student-athletes, member schools, and leagues that we serve. The NCS understands the importance of fostering an environment that welcomes, affirms, and celebrates people of all races, religions, sexes, sexual orientations, gender identity and expression, ages, national or ethnic origin, and physical or mental ability.
Goals / Actions
The NCS’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee was created to assess and meet the needs of our student-athletes and our member schools and to build a group of schools that are committed to fostering equity within their athletic departments and local communities.
The committee’s goals are to:
- increase representation at all levels of athletics
- educate student-athletes, coaches, and administrators on issues surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion
- increase awareness of social justice issues specific to high school athletics
- equip our schools with the necessary resources, support, and partnerships to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within their athletic departments
The NCS-DEI committee aspires to create a community built on collaboration, innovation, creativity, and belonging. The NCS recognizes that our member schools and their surrounding communities are rich in diversity of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. It is essential that all of our athletes, coaches, administrators, and member schools feel secure and welcome, that the contributions of all individuals are respected, and that all voices are heard. All members of our community have a responsibility to uphold these values.

Gender Equity - This one-pager was created to increase experiences for girls to learn about what a future in sports can entail, compile information of events currently taking place in Sections, statewide, and nationwide, and get more female coaches involved in education-based athletics.
Race Equity - This one-pager was created to increase opportunities for coaching development around race, provide strategies for coaches, athletic administrators, and site administrators to interrupt and prevent negative experiences, as well as provide strategies for coaches to create experiences for athletes to learn about and appreciate one another.
Access Equity - This one-pager helps Athletic Administrators identify areas in the state where school districts and athletes do not have access to facilities, equipment, and quality athletic experiences. Supporting strategies for the difficult conversation between schools, districts, security, community organizations, administrators, and athletic administrators for events are also highlighted.
